Some of Life's Best Surprises......
I am about to share with you a secret. It's a secret that I have only shared with a few choice people. The girls and token guy on my shift at work are privy to the information you are about to receive and because of this illumination and enlightenment they shall forever sing praises to my name. Want to know what it is? Ok, here goes. The Pork Egg Rolls at 7-11 are some of, if not the best, I've ever eaten. There, I said it. I know what you're thinking....Dear, Sweet, Lord. The words "7-11" and "best ever eaten" don't even sound right in the same sentence but my friend, verily I say unto thee, until you have tried them, you haven't lived. Never would I ever think that something that comes in this box:
Would taste THIS good! Let me show you the wonder that is the 7-11 Pork Egg Roll....
Please note the two packs of Sweet and Sour Sauce that accompanies these delectable delights. Let me explain to you why, when I send the hubby to pick up our meal from the local Chinese place, I have him stop at 7-11 for the egg rolls. First of all, if you're able to get them right out of the convection oven they cook them in, they are really fresh tasting. They're filled with the usual: pork, cabbage, carrots and various other veggies. I think what strikes me is the fact that the pork to filling ratio is just right. Usually, the local Chinese place loads up on the cabbage which frankly is rather bitter and they use artificial bacon bits (shudder!) while these are very meaty and are lightly seasoned. The Sweet and Sour Sauce is made from peaches, a fact which surprised me. It's not heavy on any typical oriental flavorings such as ginger. Just pure, sweet and light, perfect for dipping. Another plus for these beauties? You can get two for less than $2.50! Perfect for lunch or a late night snack which is what we do at work when the 3 am munchies roll around. Listen, I'm not kidding....we actually call 7-11 and let the clerk know we're coming so he can have the requisite dozen ready. He thinks we're nuts. We know we're brilliant. And on top of that I am now an egg roll goddess to those I work with. (Ok, goddess is a little much, but I do think I've managed to put a smile on their faces with this sweet secret.)
So, now that you have been indoctrinated into the circle of trust you need to go try them and let me know what you think!
慢慢吃! or.....Bon Appetit in Chinese!

I wonder if all 7-11's carry the same type of egg rolls. Living in MD and not in NC makes me wonder will I get the same "level" of perfection. Perhaps I'll have to try them and let you know. However, first I have to find out about the fat grams in
ReplyDeleteeach before I commit to trying them.
